Wire Mesh Partitions and Electric Arc Welding

In wire mesh partitions manufacturing, nothing plays a more important role in ensuring the strength, rigidity and durability of each partition than the process of electric arc welding. This type of welding provides a greater percentage of quality, uniform welds that are as strong as welds made by any other process.

Without electric arc welding, wire partitioning would have to be made using
a completely different, and in some cases, more costly method.

How Electric Arc Welding Works

Electric arc welding (also called spot welding) joins two pieces of metal by using the intense heat produced by electrical resistance. A heavy electric current applied at low voltage causes a concentration of heat in the metal on each side of the joint. When the metals reach the required welding heat, pressure is exerted to force the welding surfaces together.

In making wire partitioning, steel wire strands are arranged perpendicularly with the points of contact welded together at each intersection. No solder or foreign metal is added at the joint. Instead, the intersecting welds form a homogeneous union that ensures the spacing and alignment are secure and permanent. This allows wire mesh partitions to better maintain their shape when stressed.

Advantages of Electric Welding Wire Mesh Partitions

For manufacturers of wire mesh partitions, there are several advantages to using electric arc welding:

  • No other welding process delivers more heat to a confined area as quickly. With ample amounts of power, many welds can be made in the quickest time possible. In addition to saving time, better results are achieved this way. 10 gauge steel wire strands used in making wire mesh partitions take a fraction of a second to weld.
  • With the electric process, no preparation of the metal is required other than ensuring the welding surfaces be clean. An electrical arc weld is less labor intensive and more often stronger than riveting.
  • Because of the high heat concentration, electric arc welding doesn’t cause distortion in the weld. Work pieces of various strength can also be welded with each other without any problems.
  • The cost of labor is greatly reduced. Electric arc welding machines can be operated continuously or intermittently as necessary, so that the greatest amount of work will be handled by the machine. An experienced operator is not required to operate an electric arc welding machine. His only duties consists of securing the metal wires in the dies of the machine and closing the switch.
The object of welding is basically to produce a quality weld in the least amount of time.
For this reason, electric arc welding is used extensively in wire partitions manufacturing.
