Wire Mesh Lockers – DEA Level Security for your Inventory
Wire mesh lockers are by far the most economical way of storing and protecting your inventory. If you’ve ever wondered about the kind of security they offer, consider this: steel wire lockers and cages easily conform to the strict storage security guidelines laid out by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Properly installed, wire mesh lockers can offer the same level of security needed to protect your materials and equipment.
DEA requires that narcotics and other controlled substances be stored in a protected location, as specified in the Title 21 CFR Sections regarding physical security controls, to prevent theft or diversion. These locations must have specific facilities that comply with the DEA’s special needs.

A steel cage constructed of not less than 10-gauge steel fabric, mounted on steel posts of at least 1-inch thick:
The best wire lockers and security cages are made with low carbon steel - a tough, yet excellent structural material. The steel wires are set perpendicularly with the points of contact welded together at each intersection. This ensures a rigid construction and allows the wire mesh walls to better maintain their shape when stressed.
The industry standard for steel security cages is 10-gauge. Some enclosures are made with heavier 6-gauge wire, which provides a sturdier panel. However, a lower “heavier” gauge can be unnecessarily costly and awkward to handle.
Although 1-inch thick steel posts are the minimum size, many companies including Major Partitions prefer 2-inch tubular steel posts to ensure a better stability. To maintain their durability, low carbon steel lockers are usually coated with a protective anti-corrosive material.
Have a wire mesh locker with openings of no more than 2 ˝ inches across the square:
An aspect of wire mesh lockers that makes it secure is that the openings are too small to be used as footholds or handholds. Therefore, unlike a cage made of chain link for example, a wire mesh storage locker is difficult to scale. However, the open mesh design allows for quick visual inspection of the items being protected.
Wire mesh walls must be set no more than ten feet apart, with horizontal reinforcement:
Many companies offer storage lockers with wire mesh walls that are 5 to 6 feet in length. Longer lengths can be custom-made. For better rigidity and security, panels can be reinforced with horizontal and vertical rod stiffeners.
Wire mesh walls must be mounted flush to the floor:
Wire mesh lockers are usually designed to have a sweep space – the opening between the bottom of the wire mesh panel and the floor. The sweep space is intended for housekeeping purposes. DEA enclosure guidelines require that the locker panels extend to the ground. But for businesses, one inch of sweep space is enough to minimize installation problems caused by uneven floors and allow for housekeeping.
Have a ceiling constructed of the same material, or when erected reaches the structural ceiling of the building.
Wire mesh lockers and partitions are interchangeable and totally modular. Wire mesh walls can be used as a ceiling to create a completely secure enclosure to store your inventory. Its modularity lets you convert unused vertical space into storage space. Wire mesh panels, reinforced with rod stiffeners, can be stacked up to forty feet high to create storage areas for a fraction of the cost of relocating to a larger facility.
