LEED Certification
LEED is the short name given to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which is a standard for determining building sustainability. This is an excellent way to demonstrate whether the building project is up to the standard or not. It is a rating system that is administered by the Green Building Council of U.S. which is a nonprofit organization leading industrial world. This system is specially designed to promote and construct design practices with an aim to reduce negative impact on environment. It also helps in increasing profitability and improving the health of occupants. It promotes and educates various industry leaders towards designing eco-friendly designs.
The LEED program is very flexible because it is not structured rigidly, it is not necessary that every project should meet indistinguishable requirements of the system. The model was developed by highly skilled professionals to encourage eco-friendly awareness amongst architects, government agencies, developers, engineers and builders. There are four levels of attaining LEED certification that are determined through point or credit system. These levels are also certified as platinum, gold and silver. To attain this certification a project or building has to submit an application form and essential documents complying with the requirements of LEED system.
According to Green Building Council U.S. the certification is based upon satisfactory application, compliance verification and reviews along with an associated fee. In present scenario, the government of every country is working very hard to maintain good and healthy environment. LEED is contributing its best to achieve the target set by the regulatory authorities.
In order to promote LEED system throughout the country, the government is offering good amount of incentive to those buildings that have attained LEED certification. This includes funding to developing projects, tax relieves and monetary incentives. Some practices include using recycled material, less elimination of waste and many more. LEED certification is an essential tool to develop eco-friendly buildings and contributing to the general safety.
